The South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference and Festival 2013  showcases bright minds in information technology, film and music from March 8 to 17, 2013 in Austin, Texas.

This big event is filled with technology geeks and Hollywood celebrities. There are presentations on the emerging technology, the SXSW Trade Show, networking events of industry leaders and an extravagant lineup of special programs with the best and newest digital works, innovative ideas and video games from the international community. Hundreds of exhibitors from around the globe have presented their most creative ideas. The event is sponsored by big-time companies such as Yahoo, Pepsi, Doritos, Chevrolet, American Airlines, American Express and many more.

A Goal to Make Bright Minds Meet

In 1987, South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival or SXSW was first held in Austin, Texas. The state back then did not even reach the Top 20 major markets, which made it a perfect location for the event. Austin was seen as a cosmopolitan town because of the University of Texas, drawing people from around the world. It has always been a party town since the 19th century because of the bars and nightspots that existed even during the Civil War. Dating back from the German, Mexican and colonial origins, Austin was known for its eclectic music, encompassing various genre such as folk, jazz, country, rock and blues.

The SXSW was a way to help Austin, Texas make a name and reach the rest of the world to attract businessmen. This has given the music industry executives a reason to visit the state. The event appealed to local artists and other people coming from different places such as Ft. Worth, Toronto, Chicago, Tokyo and even Munich. The international community began showing interest in the SXSW during its second year. This was because of the success of American and Austin bands in Europe. SXSW currently has offices in Germany, Ireland, Japan and Australia to bring international registrants to Austin. The event eventually grew from 700 registrants to 16,000. High-tech companies and film companies are now playing a major role in the economy of both Austin and Texas. SXSW Interactive and SXSW Film were added components in the event, which attracted over 32,000 registrants every March in Austin. The original goal of the SXSW was to have an event that would bring companies and creative people to work together. It is still the goal at the present, but now considers different industries such as the internet, film and music – with Austin remaining as the perfect location for the event.

SXSW Interactive, SXSW Music and SXSW Film

The entire event is divided into three components: SXSW Interactive, SXSW Film and SXSW Music. Both the SXSW Interactive and SXSW Film started last March 8, while the SXSW Music started on March 12. Each component offers different sets of activities and gimmicks. For this year’s conference, the SXSW Film highlighted the Come & Capture Film Factory where participants learned more about the latest tools in creating and capturing content with panel discussions, hands-on sessions and demos. Participants can download the SXSW GO 2013 App, which they can get from the App Store and Google Play for event updates and connection with other attendees.
