Hollywood Actor-producer Hugh Jackman marked his 45th birthday on Saturday and raised an approximate amount of $1.85 million for the Motion Picture and Television Fund. There were 4,500 guests in attendance at Jackman’s One Night Only Show at the Dolby Theatre where he showed his singing prowess that placed him on the lead role of the romantic drama musical film Les Miserables in 2012.

Music and Life Story

A 17-member performance backed Jackman’s birthday concert. His repertoire included musical numbers from his latest Broadway performance and classic Hollywood selections. He also did a tap-dancing routine when he sang “Singing in the Rain.” In between songs, he told stories about his life and family. Video clips from some Hollywood musical films were also shown. The audience also got a treat of a variety of musical selections from Australia where Jackman hails. The actor also sang a song as a tribute to his wife. During the concert, the birthday honoree said that the concert party was the most narcissistic way of spending his birthday because it was centered on his personal life and favorite music.

Nonetheless, Jackman expressed gratitude to the crowd for coming to his bash to celebrate with him and to offer help for a noble cause. He donated the proceeds of his performance to the Motion Picture & Television Fund. The actor said that he chose to give to the foundation because it provides health care and retirement assistance to the industry workers and retirees. According to him, the organization is a big help to Hollywood entertainers and workers as it provides an unconditional helping hand that one can only get in family.

Prominent guests

Present in Jackman’s birthday concert were prominent guests like Cybill Shepherd, director Bryan Singer and Tom Cruise. The concert was also meant to entertain Jackman’s fans that have put him to huge stardom and followed him religiously in his Wolverine series. Aside from appearing in movies, Hugh is also a frequent host in awarding ceremonies. He hosted the Tony Awards three times and was emcee in the 81st Academy Awards in 2009.

Growing old happily

According to the multi-awarded actor he is growing old happily. He said he is not afraid to grow older because he has plans on other livelihood for the future. Jackman reportedly has £62 million in assets that continue to rise with the pouring projects coming his way. Jokingly, he said that he is open for commercial endorsements now at his age, saying that he can advertise for Viagra. Before the show ended, Hugh sang his favorite songs like Guys and Dolls and several scores from Les Misérables. When the concert finally came to the curtain call, the audience sang for him Happy Birthday.

Auction

To raise more funds for his birthday concert beneficiary, Hugh auctioned off some items at the close of the show. Among those auctioned were an electric car, Wolverine claws, vests that he wore in the concert, undershirts and other personal things. Two lucky members from the crowd won the undershirt bid for $11,000 each item.
