A California-Based Company Helps Victims of Domestic Violence Move for Free

For someone who’s never been in an abusive relationship, it’s hard to imagine all the obstacles and limitations abusers put on their victims, making it almost impossible for them to escape.

Meathead Movers to the rescue. Founded in 1997, this California moving company offers moving ser-vices to people in their service areas fleeing abusive situations, free of charge. In most cases, victims have no access to money, which leaves them nearly out of options. By getting free help from these student athlete movers, they’re able to leave their pain behind and start a new life.

Although Meathead Movers has been providing free help to victims of domestic violence for years, the company recently partnered with the Marjaree Mason Center in Fresno, a nonprofit organization that provides education, counseling and emergency services to victims of domestic violence.

“There’s a lot of barriers and a lot of reasons why [the victims] don’t just flee,” said Genelle Taylor Kumpe, with Marjaree Mason Center.

Only during the first week of the partnership, Meathead Movers has already helped 4 families to get out of domestic violence situations. This is a major indicator of how many people may need this kind of help in the Fresno area.

Meathead Movers offers an unlimited amount of these “emergency services”. But their assistance doesn’t end there; the company makes sure the person or the family is placed in a safe home, and is well taken care of. In addition, Meathead Movers is now hoping to inspire a movement with its #Mov-eToEndDV challenge. The company has set a goal of encouraging at least 100 businesses around the world to step and make a difference in the lives of victims of domestic violence and the life-saving shelters that support them. More information about how to get involved and make a pledge can be found at: www.meatheadmovers.com/pledge.

Meathead Movers, a company consisting of predominantly student athletes who believe that “real men and women don’t hit, they help those in need”, is certainly making a difference to the people they help. With their services, these young men are giving a new start in life to those who need it the most.
