Del Bosque Thinks his team lost control against Finland

The two time European winner and World Champion, Spain had a lot of problems against a small market Finland, and even their coach Vicente Del Bosque acknowledged his team lost control and entered in desperation.

Spain ended tying the game 1-1 despite having possession of the ball 90% of the time, and just giving one scoring situation to Finland; opportunity, by the way, that they did not waste.

“We could have been more successful in front of goal, but we lacked the ability to add a second goal. Finland locked up their defense well, and made the unthinkable happen”, Del Bosque said. “We could have been more clinical in front of goal but to not have won is too big a punishment”.

Spain now will go to France where they need to beat the home team in order to gain the number one seed of the group back.  A draw or a loss will maintain the Spanish in the second spot.

Keep in mind just one team per group qualifies straight to the World Cup; the second place has to play a direct elimination series with other second places.

“We continue to rely on ourselves. We have a great team and winning in France is possible,” Del Bosque insisted. “There are four games left, and there is still a long way to go.”

Spain has beaten France in three of their last four meetings, with the other result ending in a draw.  From those three wins, one came at Paris/Saint-Denis stadium, where the Tuesday game will be played.
