Thousands Gather at U.S. Capitol in Support of Undocumented Immigrants

Thousands of supporters cheering for the legalization of undocumented immigrants in the United States gathered on April 10, 2013 outside the U.S. Capitol building, where members of both the Republican and the Democratic parties were discussing the future of the immigration system and the 11 million undocumented Americans.
The proposals were presented by what became known as “the gang of eight”, a bipartisan group of senators who strived to agree on certain basis to quickly approve the piece of legislation hailed by many as the most important in decades. 2013 seems to be the year when undocumented immigrants will finally witness success in Congress.

Undocumented Immigrants and America’s Grassroots Movement

Immigrants’ voices have been growing louder with the years and have found different resources to make themselves heard. Such is the case of Reform Immigration FOR America, a movement which found support online while seeking to encourage a comprehensive and long-term reform of the American immigration system that would promote economic opportunities for those living in poverty today. The movement seeks to foment a human approach towards the undocumented population that would be able to protect their work while enhancing American citizens’ safety and communion. With over 160,000 people following their actions on Facebook and nearly 10,000 on Twitter, Reform Immigration FOR America is another means that has contributed to getting messages across and keeping the population informed. After the public display of support on the part of the thousands that gathered in the Capitol on Wednesday, many are convinced the “time is now” for immigration reform.
