White House Communications Director, Mike Dubke, is resigning just three months after joining the Trump administration. While his departure day is still unknown, he resigned on May 18th in a private meeting with president Trump and offered to stay on until the President completed his first international trip to ease the transition.

To confirm the news, Counselor Kellyanne Conway told Fox: “What I will say is that he has expressed his desire to leave the White House and made very clear that he would see through the President’s international trip.”

Washington officials have said that, beyond the role of White House Communications Director, “other staff changes might be expected in the coming weeks.”

White House Communications Director Role

Dubke took the White House Communication Director role in February in order to help relieve Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who at that time was working double, crafting the message and delivering it to the press.

Dubke’s job was to work behind-the-scenes managing the White House communications strategy and responses to crises, such as the firing of FBI director James B. Comey, the investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 U.S. election, and Jared Kushner’s allegedly back channel communications with the Kremlin.

As he states in an email he sent to his associates, Mr. Dubke says he is leaving for personal reasons.

“The reasons for my departure are personal, but it has been my great honor to serve President Trump and this administration. It has also been my distinct pleasure to work side-by-side, day-by-day with the staff of the communications and press departments. This White House is filled with some of the finest and hardest working men and women in American government.”

Yet, according to several media outlets, Mr. Trump wasn’t happy with the way his communications team has managed the administration’s allegedly ties with the Russian government.

What Happens Next

President Trump has reportedly been talking with former campaign advisers, Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie, about taking on formal roles, as well as the creation of the crisis-communications war room.

Dubke is the founder of Crossroads Media, a GOP media relations firm, and co-founder at the Blackrock Group, a communications and public affairs firm. It is expected that he will return there now the White House Communications Director.
