Ikea and Marriott Create Moxy for the Young, Budget-Conscious Travelers

Ikea and Marriott are partnering together to create Moxy, a new chain of budget hotels in Europe which look less like a hostel and more like a proper stylish hotel. The whole idea revolves around providing cheap rooms that look clean and sober, while providing for basic needs such unlimited Wi-Fi access. The first Moxy Hotel will open in Milan by 2014, followed by others in Germany, the UK, Italy and the Netherlands, just to name a few. The chain will target more or less the same public that shop in Ikea: young, budget-conscious and modern, the sort of person who does not want to pay much but cares about technology and design.

What Are Young, Budget-Conscious Travelers Looking For?

1. Location

One of the main issues that any traveler has to address is that of location. Whether they go on holidays or on a business trip, being in a good neighborhood where you they can feel safe and have coffee shops, supermarkets and restaurants at hand is generally key to a good stay.

2. Access

If hotels are too expensive in the center of the city, many tourists decide to choose a place in the outskirts. This should cause no problems if the place has good access to a bus, train or subway line. In this case, it is good to check that the cost of the transport tickets is not larger than the difference between a room in the outskirts and one at the very center of the action.

3. Facilities

Most international travelers need an Internet connection to communicate with friends and family. In the case of a business trip, checking whether there is Internet access is surely crucial. If one is traveling by car, the issue of parking should be kept in mind. Finally, no matter what the budget is, most travelers look for clean places. Extra space tends to be dispensable, but everyone needs a clean bed and shower.
