Microsoft created Microsoft Surface Pro, a versatile machine that looks like a tablet but is way much different for it is a new breed of ultra book. Its exterior is formed like a tablet but its inner parts are a synergy of well chosen components that are built for desktop performance. Like any other laptops in the markets, this hybrid contains the 3rd Gen Intel® Core TM i5 Processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 4GB RAM – Dual Channel Memory which makes this a class machine. Available with a 64GB or 128GB memory storage but this specs are subject to change based on system software updates and apps usage.
The Surface Pro uses the VaporMg casing with titanium color like that of the Surface RT but thicker at 0.53” to give way for integrated fans and cooling vents. Its total mass which includes the type cover is much lighter by 2.5 pounds than your regular ultra book. Its display screen has 10.6″ ClearType Full HD Display that consist of 1920X1080 pixels in a 16:9 (widescreen) and a 10-point multi-touch. With these display specifications, the Surface pro screen has a pixel density of 208ppi which when compared to other ultra book hybrids like the Dell XPS 12 and the Thinkpad Yoga 11 is a notch higher. The Pro’s audio quality is dramatically increased compared to its older brother the Surface RT. The music is louder, much crispier and has more bass power.
For the sake of an ultra book like experience, Microsoft developed the Type Cover with the keys slightly concaved for a smooth feel without sacrificing quality. It’s a joy to type on, no need to adapt and typing errors are much minimal. Microsoft also introduces its new Surface pen that has 1024 degrees of pressure and “palm-blocking” technology. This pen is built for stroke precision and quick responsiveness that users need. This is good for those who are inclined to artistic creations like drawing, hand writing, painting and other more creative activities that include the handheld pen as a tool.
Unfortunately for users, battery life is a bit low compared to other devices. As reported, it could only last up to three to five hours of battery life which depends on what kind of task are you running on it. But Microsoft might be planning to support new accessories that will definitely increase Surface Pro’s battery life. This is according to the Q&A on Reddit, the surface team members confirmed that there are newly added connectors below the surface pro screen which can bring enough current that can charge the battery. In other words, you can attach other keyboard pad such as the Asus Transformer Pad or the HP Envy X2-style keyboard where both has battery to enable the ultra book to run using keyboard batteries. This could effectively increase its battery life span into twice its original life.
There’s a good future for the Surface series waiting to be unraveled but Microsoft needs to improve its battery life first. They might also consider the possibility of increasing the Surface Pro’s current memory capacity from both 64GB and 128GB to a bigger size so that its price will be more reasonable to buyers.
