Apple, one of the leading companies in mobile technology is now celebrating another milestone as the moment of its 50 billionth App Store download is fast approaching. Apple has announced that the lucky user to click on the 50 billionth application download in App Store is going to receive a $10,000 worth App Store Gift Card. Apple also stated that the next 50 users after the 50 billionth app download will also receive consolation prizes of $500 worth of App Store Gift Card.

Promo mechanics

The mechanics have been laid down by Apple to determine those who are eligible to join this remarkable event. Apple specifically stated that users should at least be 13 years of age. They also made clear that only 25 entries per account per day will be allowed.

Redeeming the iTunes gift card is also made easy, thanks to Apple’s new innovation that Apple computer users may take advantage of. The card code can either be entered manually or it can be recognized automatically using the camera of your Mac.

From 10 to 50 Billion

Apple’s growth in terms of popularity and consumer patronage is only leveling up by the year. Even though Apple’s iPhone is taking things quite slow at the moment, App Store is gaining more and more popularity. January 2011 was the time when Apple reached its 10 billionth app download. After more than a year, the number doubled and the numbers steadily climbed up to 25 billion downloads. According to reports, App Store reached 35 billion downloads in October 2012 with an impressive margin of at least 1 billion downloads per month. The number of downloads certainly shows that Apple users are hooked in what the App Store has to offer.

Since the download stats are starting to reach the roof, it is estimated that the App Store is dealing with about 2 and a half billion downloads per month. This only shows that the average Apple user is at this time downloading in hyper drive.

What to do with the $10,000.00 App Store Gift Card

Winning the $10,000.000 pot in Apple’s 50 billionth app download is a rather mind-blowing possibility. For some users, this is certainly like winning the lottery. Apple users would certainly go crazy shopping movies, music and whatever app or content to their heart’s desire. Spending $10,000 worth of application is not an easy task and users might even run out of ideas on what application or content to download.

To have a guided tour or idea on what applications and contents to download (and spend a possible $10,000 prize card), Business Insider made a list of some of the most awesome, not to mention expensive apps available for Apple users.

Leading the download charts

Surveys showed that 19 out of 25 downloads in the App Store are games. According to macstories.net, last year’s count was only 17. This means that the total volume of games being downloaded has increased.

Facebook is still the #1 social media app being downloaded in the App Store, since it is free. Instagram also took a huge leap and landed on #3. Facebook now holds two top spots in the download arena since it acquired Instagram last year.
