Former Nokia Employees Introduce Jolla, a New Smartphone

Jolla, pronounced as Yol-la has been made known to the public and is expected to be available in the market before the year ends. Former Nokia employees have put a lot of effort in making this innovative smartphone stand out from the rest of the competition. It is believed that Jolla will evidently surpass its predecessors because of its unique and new look, not to mention the new operating system this phone has, which makes it one of a kind indeed.

Hooking the bait

According to Antti Saarnio, chairman and co-founder of Jolla, the operating system incorporated in this smartphone was specially made to rival Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. The OS was built by former Nokia employees that were assigned on the MeeGo project.

MeeGo is the software that was incorporated in Nokia’s N9-00. The MeeGo software was not given enough opportunity to flourish but it has much potential. The team behind the creation of MeeGo and N9-00 ultimately believes that it is one of the best phones ever created. The only problem is marketing.

Sailfish

MeeGo is now known as Sailfish, the OS that Jolla is currently running on. There hasn’t been anything interesting in the mobile phone arena in the past few years, and this is the opportunity for new creators to enter the market and give consumers something very different. For Saarnio, these were the reasons why Jolla was born.

What makes Jolla special?

Smartphones are mostly categorized and chosen depending on the features it affords the user. Most mobile phones that get the attention of consumers are those that have huge and high resolution screens. It is also important that the OS should deliver high performance and provide an amazing mobile phone experience.

High performance in every way

Jolla is made with a 4.5 inch screen which is perfect for watching videos and taking pictures. It is also equipped with an eight megapixel camera that gets amazing and high quality pictures and videos. This phone is 4G-ready so there is no hassle in Internet browsing and downloading. Jolla’s OS is retrofitted to be compatible with applications made for Google’s Android.

“The Other Half”

One of the most unique features of Jolla is what they call “The Other Half.” The phone’s back portion is interchangeable and there are lots of colors to choose from. When the back portion is changed, the operating system will also change depending on the color of the cover. This feature is a fascinating way to demonstrate to others that you belong to a certain group. The details on how this unique and one of a kind feature works was not deliberately stated but according to speculators, it uses the NFC technology, also known as near field communication.

Opening to others

Even though Saarnio left Nokia in 2011, he still whishes the Finnish mobile phone company the best. He said that Jolla’s Sailfish is open for use by other companies. All they have to do is present a business proposal.
