Apple’s 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference: Product and Software Updates Soon to be Underway

Apple is expected to kick off its 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in less than 24 hours. Over the past few months there have been the usual speculations and rumors about what product lines will be revealed. However, Apple is not expected to announce a new iPhone, smartwatch or interactive television when CEO Tim Cook steps onstage.

A closer look at the iOS7

Many Apple fans are really looking forward to what the 2013 WWDC has in store for them. According to the Cupertino based company, iOS7 will ultimately be showcased in the event. Former chief of software design Scott Forstall has already left the company leaving the reins of power to Jonathan Ive. According to 9to5 Mac, a great change in the software design can be expected in the release of iOS7.

Codename “Cabernet”

“Cabernet” was the codename given to Apple’s OS X 10.9, which is expected to be announced with new updates during the WWDC. The announcement of 10.9 is not actually new since CEO Tim Cook already spilled the beans during his public interview in a conference he attended last month. According to Apple, 10.9 has a more user-friendly and improved multi-monitor support. It has also been rumored that the OS X 10.9 will be incorporated with Siri. This is a great move for Apple since Google has been using a voice search option for quite some time now.

Mac Pro gets more juice

Mac Pro desktop did not get much attention in the past despite the fact that a lot of developers are waiting for it to level up. Since then, CEO Tim Cook has promised to revamp the powerful device and some speculations point to the 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference as the ripe moment to deliver such promises. It is rumored that the Mac Pro now supports USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt. Now that Haswell CPUs are taking the spotlight, Mac Pro should be able to prove that it can rise above the competition.

Tune in to world radio

Multiple sources have concluded that Apple will also launch a radio service called iRadio. According to Bloomberg and Wall Street Journal, this new service will be tied to iTunes and will function similar to Pandora. It means that more music options and better control is afforded the user since song history and music selection will be the key elements of iRadio. This might just be Apple’s answer to Google’s updated music streaming service launched at the Google I/O in May.

For this service to be more successful, Apple successfully closed deals with Warner, Universal and Sony. Getting the support of the three major record labels is surely going to give iRadio users a wide variety of music selections.

What not to expect

One thing is for sure – the 2013 WWDC will not showcase a new iPhone. After the release of the iPhone 5, Apple needed more time to launch a new mobile device. The rumored iTV will eventually be launched, but not in this upcoming WWDC. This is also the case with iWatch, which will not yet see the light of day in 2013. Apple has also been closely developing and making improvements with the iPad mini. According to sources, Apple is making a retina iPad mini that has a longer battery life.
