The annual Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 starts today the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. A press conference that is long awaited by Microsoft Xbox fans will kick start E3 2013.

Both Microsoft and Sony will make key announcements during the opening. Other events will follow suit where new hardware, consoles and game titles will be unveiled. This annual video game expo brings together thousands of gaming professionals for a week of tech releases and exciting hands on opportunities from Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Big event

It’s that time of the year again for the video game industry’s biggest trade show and this year, next generation consoles are the stars. Coverage in the form of live streams and live blogs from a variety of websites are set to cover the week-long event with updates straight from the floor. Recaps and photo slide shows are promised by a number of these services dedicated to bringing in real-time updates for video game enthusiasts who cannot otherwise participate in the event.

PS4 unveiling

After the February 2013 system announcement, and last month’s black box teaser, Sony is expected to unveil the PS4 console design during the E3. Those who want to know more about the PS4’s compatibility with PS Vita might very well get their answers during the press conference. The consequences of Sony’s partnership with UStream and Facebook are also expected to be revealed, or at least the social implications behind the Dual Shock’s share button.

Xbox One

How the Xbox has become an all-in-one entertainment system will soon be made public. Enthusiasts have already been given a preview in a brief unveiling in May, but the whole shebang will soon be made known in just a few hours. Speculations on the price and release date will also be announced.

Game details

The hardware may be impressive, but many gamers are looking forward to something else altogether – more games. It has been confirmed that Sony will bring in at least 40 games for PSVita, PS3 and the PS4. Gaming amateurs and professionals are definitely keen on hearing about the details of games such as Killzone: Shadow Fall, Gran Turismo 6, and a possible new addition to the Uncharted series. Halo makers Bungie are also expected to reveal more information on Destiny.

Senior writer for Destiny, Eric Osborne, said that they have worked hard and they are all excited about what people will say about the new game that they have developed. We are hopefully going to bring a game that people will love, he added.

What else? More games

Fans are also expecting a new Mario game and possibly new Metroid, Pokemon, Star Fox and Zelda versions are on the list as well. When it comes to 3D games, a lot of fans are keen on seeing a new sequel to Link to the Past, Luigi’s Mansion, and perhaps Donkey Kong Returns.

A word of caution though, lest people’s expectations be dashed to the ground – it is not advisable to expect anytime during the week, new hardware revelations from Nintendo. Wii U is not yet a year old after all.
