Klinsmann has job security, for now

USA Coach JurguenKlinsmann faced a lot questions before the game against Costa Rica, after Sporting News did a report that the suggested the locker room was broken.  After the win against the ‘ticos’, Klinsmann’s job seems secure, at least for now.

“That’s just part of our environment. Journalists and people can say whatever they feel, whatever they think, whatever they believe, which is important. I think it’s a great sign, all the debate that is going on about soccer in this country. It shows you that people care”, said Klinsmann.

“No, I don’t have any problems with that,” he added. “Obviously I prefer that if you have a problem with me, come to me and talk to me about it. The so-called ‘anonymous quotes’ where we do don’t know who said it; is it a player, is it an agent, is it a fan or whoever? But it doesn’t distract us from what we’re here for or. Our focus was strictly on Costa Rica.”

The victory 1-0 over Costa Rica in the ‘Snow Bowl’ gives the US team some breathing room, but they could have a horrible turn around when they visit Mexico at the Azteca on Tuesday.  Considering Mexico has lost only once in qualifiers at home (vs Costa Rica in 2001), the job in hand is pretty difficult.

“The Hex is all about adaptation,” said Klinsmann about the win against the Ticos, “and we did that tonight. We are now going to go and play in more altitude and hotter weather, and we will have to adapt again.”

The locker room seem to be alright after the victory; even Captain Clint Dempsey believes a difficult win such like the one on Friday night will become into something positive for the future of the team.

“We can build on this,” said Clint Dempsey. “We can use this to start a run, and build confidence, and when you have confidence, you can win games. I know that because I am grateful that Klinsmann showed the confidence in me when things weren’t going so well with that situation at Fulham. And look what happened.”
