Spanish football player Jesús Navas, winger at Sevilla FC never wanted to leave his country in the past. He suffers from chronic homesickness. Therefore it is great news that he finally took the chance this time and decided to join Manchester City. In 2006 he was wooed to play for Chelsea but the dread of living in a foreign location made him turn down the offer.

In sports, it is often a sign of an athlete’s talent, skills and popularity when he gets scouted and wooed to transfer to another club. A transfer package of course is usually something that not only includes great financial compensation, but other add-ons and bonuses and concessions to sweeten the deal. Of course, it is not always the financial consideration that comes uppermost, there’s also the opportunity for personal and professional growth as a player and as an individual.

Fear of being away from home

Jesús Navas has stayed all of his 27 years in his hometown of Los Palacios y Villafranca, which is just 20 miles from Sevilla. His chronic homesickness precludes leaving the area. Also suffering from seizures and anxiety attacks, he almost did not travel with his team to the United States during the pre-season. But he himself decided that he needs to do it, if only to get rid of his sickness.
Navas, with the help of extended counseling, which had served him greatly, is now ready for the larger football stage. This is good news for fans of Manchester City, for the talented winger is ready to roll.

The move to Manchester City

Manchester City had been in talks with Navas’ management for about four months. Sevilla FC announced Navas’ transfer last week but it was only a few hours ago that the deal with Manchester City has been stamped and sealed. Navas’ has completed and passed the medical tests in New York, which were part of the deal with the English club.

Jesús Navas’ five-year contract with Manchester City is initially worth £14.9 million, which could go up to £15.9 million within the duration of his contract. This is equivalent to 25 million euros or roughly over US$33.7 million. He says he is looking forward to playing in a football arena where the football play is fast and most suited to his playing style.

Another football star who will be joining Manchester City is Fernandinho, a Brazilian football star who, before signing up with Manchester City, was playing with Ukraine club Shakhtar Donetsk.

Navas still has to play in the Confederations Cup and has been granted a short holiday afterwards before joining the rest of the team for their pre-season training.

Career to date

Navas is a direct and quick right winger who excels in dribbling quickly. He is also noted for his braveness to run at defenders from the opposition. He has been a member of Spain’s national team since 2004 and has earned 23 caps for his country. He was a key player in Sevilla’s winning of the UEFA Cup in 2006 and 2007. It was only his fear of traveling outside Sevilla that continued to hold him back.
Still, his talent is recognized because he was also part of the successful Spanish squad during the 2010 World Cup and the Euro 2012. And he is likewise a part of the 23-man team that will play in the Confederations Cups starting on June 15, 2013.
