More strong contenders in the 2014 World Cup Finals to be held in Brazil are getting their qualification slots for the event. Colombia is the latest team to join. Germany, Belgium and Switzerland are the three other countries that recently secured their positions while England is said to be joining soon.

Decisive Victory for Colombia

International football teams aiming for the World Cup Finals undergo rigorous qualifying rounds before they get enlisted in the finalists list. The Colombians obtained their place in the international football competition when they scored a 3-3 draw with Chile following their 3-goal deficit. It was an exciting match as team Colombia scored 3-0 during the interval, almost losing its hope to grab a ticket to the final games. On the 69th minute of playing time Teofilo Gutierrez started to throw the right hits, saving the Colombians from peril. Meanwhile Radamel Falcao snatched a double score to help Colombia qualify for the World Cup. Falcao said he was positive that his team would be able to come back to the World Cup Games and that they reassured each other at halftime that they could do it. Their manager Jose Pekerman said he never lost hope either. Colombia has not been in the finals since 1998.

Germany’s feat

Early in the games, Germany already made a good showing as it consistently took command of Group C with a 3-0 record versus the Republic of Ireland. The Germans are among the most successful football players in international events having won three World Cups in 1954, 1974 and 1990. Germany had also clinched a runner-up rank four times in the games that takes place every four years.

Belgium’s performance

Meanwhile, Belgium made a remarkable performance against Croatia with 2-1 win, enough to give the team an edge to lead Group A. Belgium earned the leading stature with Romelu Lukaku who is on Everton leave by striking scores from the two first half games during the 16th and 38th minutes, an accomplishment that placed the Belgians at great advantage. Switzerland on the other hand took over Group E with its 2-1 win over Albania while Michael Lang and Bayern Munich’s Zherdan Shaqiri earned points in each half with Hamdi Salihi garnering consolation from the penalty point.

England on the trail

The likely team to follow in the qualification round is England although it still has to win a final game with Poland to capture Group H. Fans of the English football team are optimistic to see their players in the World Cup despite the yet uncertain fate of the team against the Ukrainians who overtook with a 1-0 home victory that gave them tentative triumph over the Poles. Ukraine faces San Marino in the last playoff, putting England in a sensitive spot. World Cup 2018 host Russia is hopeful for a draw in a match Tuesday in order to pull off with Group F.

According to FIFA, more than six million requests from 203 countries for the 2014 finals in Brazil have been received. FIFA governing body said that it would give tickets on a random basis. Brazil, the host country, has more than 700 thousand ticket bids for the opening games.
